The Price of Freedom

Bronze Monument, 2003

Arlington National Cemetery
Washington, D.C.

The Price of Freedom bronze monument is permanently placed at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia; this 12’ H. monument is accompanied by a near-by additional placement of the 6’ H. mid-sized monument model of The Price of Freedom to exhibit the model-to-monument process to the guests and visitors of the cemetery. A spiraling pathway ascends upwards to a globe, upon which a guardian angel figure holds the body of a dying unknown soldier. Seven human figures ascend the pathway: five uniformed men, representing the branches of the armed forces that fought in World War II, and two women, representing the WWII nurse corps and the national working women through the image of Rosie the Riveter. These figures, as they ascend their own path, uplift the globe and guardian angel, and are simultaneously guided forth in their image.
