American Bureau of Shipping Eagle

Bronze Monument, 1979

American Bureau of Shipping Building
New York, NY

An early work by Wyatt, this 10-foot eagle is located at the American Bureau of Shipping in New York City's Financial District. The statue is based on the ABS logo, with Wyatt using his craftsmanship to activate the design as he brings it into three-dimensional space. The eagle is poised in a similar active position to Wyatt's Soaring American Eagle, looking as if it is about to take off in flight from the statue's base. At the base of the statue is an anchor, representing the maritime endeavors of the ABS in its management of marine and offshore assets. These two symbols combined together are a striking commemoration of the institution and its work.
