Hudson River School Portraits at Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site

Bronze Monuments, 2022

Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site
Hyde Park, NY

Wyatt's portraits of Thomas Moran, Thomas Cole, Sanford Gifford, and Albert Bierstadt at the Vanderbilt Mansion are the fourth installation in a series, following works at Boscobel House and Gardens, Yellowstone National Park, and Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park. These four artists are all notable for their innovation in depicting the American landscape, each creating works that inspired the preservation of the country's natural beauty. Wyatt's portraits of these artists, therefore, work in conversation with the beauty of the Vanderbilt Mansion gardens, as his naturalistic style of sculpture provides an organic feel similar to their surroundings. They act as beacons of contemplation and tributes to some of the key figures who inspire American artists today.
